Construction of Villas in Quinta do Lago is regulated and it has the lowest building density of any such development in Europe. In general terms, rents at Vale do Lobo are lower than rents for villas in Quinta do Lago, but Vale do Lobo is more popular, largely because of the legendary Praca, a nightspot.

Within 15 minutes drive are local market towns, old fashioned Portuguese shops and a wide range of restaurants. The David Lloyd tennis centre, 2 water slide parks and the marina at Vilamoura are within 15 minutes. Faro airport is about 25 minutes drive.
