Spectacular restored chateau in the Loire Valley. Wholly suitable for wedddings: ask us for more information.
In the heart of the Loire Valley, this fully-restored and very beautiful 16th Century chateau makes a spectacular and romantic venue for weddings and a luxurious, quiet venue for conferences and get-togethers. A great deal of money has been spent in recent years: interiors are tasteful and expensive, equipment is of the highest standard and there is a large, heated pool, hard surface tennis court and Bocce court in the 6 acre walled garden with an extensive rose garden and orchards. There is a small chapel in the garden. The town of Saumur is 20 minutes to the west and Tours (which has an airport) 40 minutes to the east. The surrounding countryside is a mixture of farming and vineyards.
Accommodation is the main Chateau building and in the separate orangery/pool house which has a summer kitchen which can be used for the pool area. Small children by special arrangement as there are ponds and small canals which can be a hazard for small unsupervised children.
Accommodation
Accommodation is for up to 17 in the main Chateau and up to 7 more in the Coach House which is adjacent.
The Chateau:
Ground floor:
Public rooms have 3 to 4-metre high ceilings and are furnished with antiques and high-quality reproductions.
The reception hall has antique tapestries and a striking white stone staircase leading up to the first floor. Overhead is a crystal chandelier.
The living room has walnut wood panelling, windows on both sides of the house and seating for up to 12 people around a coffee table with a fireplace. The formal dining room has a mahogany table that seats 16 guests. The light and airy breakfast room seats up to 24 guests and opens onto a beautiful terrace. There are three smaller rooms that are cozy and functional: a TV room, an office and a library. The office doubles up as a single room for the 17th guest.
The kitchen is large and equipped to professional standards with La Cornue oven/range, gas hobs, griddle, extra electric oven, two dishwashers, 3 refrigerators and wall-mounted TV. The large granite-slab table is a focal point. There is a separate laundry room with four washing machines and four dryers.
First floor:
Four very spacious bedrooms with wall-to-wall carpeting and high ceilings; three have queensize beds, one a kingsize, all with en suite bath facilities and good views of either the garden or courtyard.
Second floor:
The 'honeymoon suite' is on the split level between the first and second floor and has high ceiling, en suite bathroom, fireplace and a kingsize four-poster bed.
Three bedrooms on the second floor consist of a double and two twin rooms sharing a full size bathroom. There is a large multi-purpose room with snooker, darts, table football, fully-equipped kitchen, satellite TV and VCR.
Coach House:
The coach house is a few metres from the main Chateau house. Downstairs is a living room/kitchen area and upstairs three further bedrooms, that are simpler than those in the Chateau but still comfortable. They share a bathroom.
Facilities:
The pool is 7m x 14m approx, and the Orangerie (adjacent) has kitchenette, shower and indoor space. High quality plastic glasses are provided and there are two gas barbecues. Also there is a hard surface tennis court and bocce court.
Gardens:
The spectacular gardens feature lawns, fountains and water features and a very large rose garden.
Weddings:
The Chateau is wholly suitable for weddings: there is even a chapel in the garden. Weddings have been held here in the past with great success and the house manager will gladly organise catering etc. for you. Ask us for more details.
