An excellent party venue: ideal for weddings.
Chateau de St Loup is a classic French Chateau overlooking the village of St Loup sur Thouet in Western France, a short drive to the South of the Loire Valley but just far enough south to be officially off the beaten track. The property consists of two classic buildings, a medieval 15th Century Keep and larger 17th Century Chateau and extensive grounds and parks; and a sense of history in abundence.
The Chateau built in the early 17th Century,
offers excellent party space in its ballroom and Great Hall (see
pictures), as well as accommodation in private suites with bathrooms. Interiors are restored but largely original with very high ceilings and
fireplaces.
The Keep was built in the 14th and 15th Centuries and provides accommodation in very comfortable suites with largely original stone and plasterwork and four-poster beds:
Gardens: The Chateau is set in 125 acres of gardens and parkland which are now designated as a monument historique and currently being
faithfully restored to their former glory of the mid-18th Century using original plans from the time. This project has been awarded national and European funding and is a 'European Pilot Project'. The Potager (or traditional kitchen garden) is about 5 acres and lined with an allee of old chestnut trees. Alongside this is a 17th Century canal leading to the old pavilion, built in 1631, with a domed roof in the Imperial style. It provides intimate dining and a bridge between the Potager and the Orangery, another major resoration project that occupies two courtyards crisscrossed by gravel paths with box hedges and potted citrus plants.
Entertaining space: The owner of the Chateau is an experienced party organiser. Holding events in a privately owned castle means that you can arrange things as you wish: the whole property is at your disposal, including the Great Hall and Ballroom in the larger Chateau for dinners and dancing, a separate large marquee, the gardens (where caterers often set up meals), and the Orangery is a popular choice for cocktails.
A typical weekend wedding: the following is intended to give some idea of what is possible: all the grounds and buildings are at your disposal to make arrangements as you wish. A typical weekend would see guests arriving on Thursday evening to a catered meal on the lawn in front of the Chateau. Friday evening: dancing and dinner in the Great Hall and Ballroom. Saturday: wedding in the local church or outside the Pavillion, then drinks in the Orangery followed by dinner and dancing in the marquee. Sunday: brunch served on tables set up in the Potager. All of this is flexible: you should visit at least twice before the wedding to fine tune your plans.
